If you missed The Fort Wayne Indoor Fall Bash Parking Lot Party, then you missed out on one of the best events ever to hit this side of Waynedale since ET last showing there!  Sunday September 16, 2018 we took over the brand spanking new Clyde Theaters parking lot to share our message of Art, Community, Music, Culture, Food, Friends, Family, Bikes, and Skateboards.

The past 2 years the fundraiser has been held at the Lawton Skatepark in downtown Fort Wayne.  This year, with the hard work and relentless work ethic of a man determined to make his dreams a reality The Clyde Theater founder, Rick Kinney was able to pull off a 9 Million Dollar Upgrade to this one-of-a-kind gem on the city’s South East side.  Rick and I had a conversation about 5 or 6 years ago about doing an event like this, and sure enough here we were doing this event in real life!

Over the past 5 years Dan Butler and I have been engaged and working on relationships with people right here in our community. Folks who believe in the type of work we are doing and most importantly, the young minds we are helping mold by providing a unique place like the Fort Wayne Indoor Skatepark for humans all over our entire region.  I’m talking about partnerships with great local companies that help make a difference in the community where we live, work, and play.

Live Art Demonstration by Northside Galleries

We added a brand new experience to this years party in the form of a live art demonstration.  The four artists that you see pictured below, spent most their time on this Sunday painting this beautiful canvas artwork, each having a role in all 4 canvases.  They were essentially playing musical chairs with each canvas.  Once all the painting was over we held an auction where 4 lucky folks got to take home a piece of history created that very same day!  Thank You to all 4 of these radical human beings for volunteering to show some Fort Wayne Indoor love!

Skateboard Competition by Dead End Skateboard Co.

David Rickey, winner of the skateboard contest, launches off a launch ramp from the 80’s time period

Each year we hold multiple contests for both BMX & Skateboarding.  This year we built some portable wooden obstacles and called upon Fort Wayne Skaters to bring the noise in an old fashioned Parking Lot Jam!   We held a qualifier earlier in the day where the field was narrowed down from 17 to just 6 skaters.  Once Finals time arrived, Matt Haines grabbed the mic and we witnessed some of the best skaters we have throw down for the podium.  The battle was hard fought between Ein Henson, who took 3rd place, 2nd place went to Austin Curry, and the winner of this year’s competition was one David Rickey! Congratulations to everyone who took place in this years contest.  Prizes were given out from Independent Trucks & Creature Skateboards as well along with the goodies from Dead End Skateboard Co (A local Skateboard Company by one Brian Leonard)

Wonder Wheels BMX Stunt Demos by Harley-Davidson of Fort Wayne

We always have to ramp up the fun with the squad from Bill Nitschke’s Wonder Wheels BMX Stunt Team!  This year we provided 2 high flying, and high action shows that showcase the talents of professional BMX Freestyle!  With 4 riders the shows dropped jaws all over The Clyde Theater parking lot and made for some amazing photos of the event by Teddy Pieper.  The show consisted of 4 stunt riders; Aiden Amburgey, 15 Avilla, IN – Rob Routly, 25 Fremont, MI – Brandon Wolferman 22 from Syracuse, IN – Rich Hoppe, 44 Fort Wayne, IN.  The show tells a bit of BMX history through the timeline and progression of the different tricks invented since the beginning days of BMX and we ended up with a 4 man backflip train to finish off the last show.  This stokes me, as you can see that I am nearly twice as old as these young bucks!
